Andrew On the Issues
Action Plan
Nevada's economy is in peril. Your vote will decide our future. Help me put my 20 years of business experience to work for our community. As your Assemblyman, I will demand accountability and work hard to restore economic security to our state. I have a four point action plan:
Fighting for a Stronger Economy for All
Southern Nevada's Economy Is Hurting
Southern Nevada home prices have plunged 26.8% over the past year. Unemployment in Clark County has worsened to 5.5% from 4.4% a year ago. Area gaming revenues and hotel occupancy declined 4.8% and 4.1% respectively.
How Do We Turn It Around?
Rejuvenating Our Schools
Public schools around the country are failing to adapt to changes in our economy and society resulting from the technological revolution of the past 30 years. Rejuvenating our schools through innovation and creativity is essential to preparing young people to succeed in a highly competitive world and to become critical thinkers that are good stewards of our community.
Affordable Healthcare for All
There are over 486,000 people in Nevada who lack health insurance, which is nearly one-fifth of all residents. I believe we can provide affordable healthcare to every Nevadan if we invest wisely. But we cannot reach that goal through overregulation and over-taxation. We must address root causes that limit choices, create powerful industry cartels and drive up health care costs.
Investing in Renewable Energy in Nevada
Imagine Nevada becoming a world class innovator in renewable energy and high energy efficiency technologies. We can reinvent Southern Nevada's economy into the Silicon Valley of energy independence. This will create good jobs and strengthen our national security.
I propose Nevada and the other southwest states form the Southwest Renewable Energy Cooperative as a new vehicle for building renewable energy plants and transmission facilities, as well as retrofitting homes and buildings with solar power. This will create tens of thousands of good paying jobs, break our dependence on Middle East oil, and protect our environment. I am proposing nothing short of a green energy version of the New Deal.
