As families in our community are reeling from the financial turmoil caused by high foreclosure rates, we need to ask ourselves why Southern Nevada is one of the hardest hit areas in the country. Recent reports have show that much of Southern Nevada's housing price decline is a result of fraud, not speculation.

The financial meltdown of the mortgage market, bond insurers, giant Wall Street firms and now banks has dealt a very difficult hand to families in the Greater Las Vegas area.  We need leaders who will take bold, coordinated action to promote the public interest over special interests.

I was pleased to pick up today's RJ and see the article from Ed Vogel, "Assembly Race: Numbers Stackup against GOP, Voter Registration tilts toward Democratic Party.  They reported that Assembly District 13 went from a 4200 Republican voter edge in 2006 to a current and rising 1800 voter edge.

The National Clean Energy Summit was the first of its kind.  Top scientists, activitsts and political leaders from around the country converged on Las Vegas, whom many repeatedly called Nevada "the Saudi Arabia of renewable energy."  Governor Jim Gibbons was noticeably absent.

I want to publicly acknowledge the hard work of all my volunteers.  You make it possible for our campaign to reach the voters and communicate our message of vision, leadership and accountability.

Today, I proudly cast my ballot on the first day of early voting. I am a strong proponent of early voting because it increases voter participation. 

Today, I attended the Every Child Matters forum on Children's Issues in Nevada.  Most of the presentations were on a compelling issue where children were left behind and how more funding was needed.
